Jockey Robby Albarado continues to make progress as he recovers from a fractured left tibia that he sustained in an accident at Keeneland April 23.
“The doctors said I’d be off four weeks, and that seems about right,” Albarado told the Daily Racing Form’s Marty McGee. “I’m putting weight on the leg more and more every day. I’ve been going to physical therapy down at the University of Louisville, and everything is coming along real well. Historically, I heal pretty quick.”
Albarado was the regular rider of J Boys Echo. He was replaced by Luis Saez for the Kentucky Derby. Albarado said that he knew that his leg was badly injured when the accident happened.
“I immediately thought, ‘Of all the times in the year, it had to happen right before the Derby,’ ” he said. “I mean, you never want to get hurt, but come on.”
