Antonio Gallardo earned his second Jockeys’ Guild Jockey of the Week award by placing in the money on 23 of his 29 mounts last week at Tampa Bay Downs.
Gallardo made the most out of his 29 mounts by posting 10 wins, 7 seconds, and 6 thirds for earnings of $122,185. To cap off an impressive week, Gallardo went 3-4-1 in 9 mounts on Sunday.
On February 6th, Gallardo was briefly hospitalized following a spill in the sixth race at Tampa Bay Downs and has since fully recovered. He now sits in second place in wins among all North American riders with 56 for 2015 and leads the Tampa Bay standings.
Antonio was born in Spain and became interested in racing because his grandfather was a jockey. His first win was at Costa del Sol in Spain in 2003 and his main career goal is to win the Kentucky Derby.
