Florent Geroux won two graded stakes and led all North American jockeys by earnings last week on his way to being named Jockeys’ Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week for November 19 – 25, 2018. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America. Jockey of the Week is sponsored by FoundationDetox.com, America’s #1 Equine Toxin Remover.

Many jockeys won two stakes races last week, but few won two graded stakes. Florent Geroux managed to win not only two graded stakes, but the only Grade 1 event of the week: the $500,000 Clark Handicap on Friday at Churchill Downs.

Geroux and Leofric ($8.60) sat off the pace to defeat Bravazo, with Joel Rosario aboard, and defending champion Seeking the Soul with John Velazquez.

It was the first Grade 1 victory for the 5-year-old son of Candy Ride. Leofric won his first graded race in the West Virginia Governor’s Stakes (G3) at Mountaineer in August, followed by a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Woodward at Saratoga and a win in the Grade 2 Hagyard Fayette at Keeneland.

Geroux’s other stake victory was also at Churchill Downs, on Thanksgiving Day. Geroux and Prado’s Sweet Ride ($13.80) defeated older fillies and mares by nearly five lengths in the $200,000 Falls City Handicap (G2).

In addition to his stakes wins, Geroux was also second in the $100,000 Cardinal Handicap (G3) with Amboseli on Thursday at Churchill Downs and second in the $250,000 Zia Park Derby with Air Strike on Wednesday. He was third in the $200,000 Mrs. Revere Stakes (G2) with Cool Beans.

With $517,220 earned in six stakes starts last week, Geroux led all North American jockeys by stakes earnings. He was also the leading jockey by total earnings, adding $810,359 to his 2018 total of $21 million. His career earnings to date exceed $80 million.

Geroux won six of his 31 starts for a 19% win rate and was in the money on 68% of his mounts. In 2018, he has 169 wins in 902 starts; in his career to date, he is 1,349 for 8,362.
