After reaching a career milestone of 2,000 wins, Colby Hernandez was named Jockeys’ Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week for January 28 – February 3, 2019. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America. Jockey of the Week is sponsored by, America’s #1 Equine Toxin Remover.

Colby Hernandez was just one win away from his milestone heading into Friday’s Starlight Racing card at the Fair Grounds. He finished third in the opener, finished second in the second race, and won the third race of the card, his only win of the night, to earn his career landmark.

The third race was a one-mile allowance optional claiming event on the main track, restricted to Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds. Hernandez and Crocodile Jacques ($7.80) were wire-to-wire winners, finishing over two lengths ahead of post-time favorite Luck of the Draw.  Crocodile Jacques is trained by Victor Arceneaux for owner and breeder Tigertail Ranch.

In his 19 starts last week, Hernandez won three races for a win rate of 16%; he finished in the money on 74% of his mounts. He has won 16 of his 101 starts in 2019.

Hernandez added $99,190 to his 2019 total of $399,250. He has earned $39,323,521 in his career to date.

The Louisiana native began riding in 2006 and achieved his previous career milestone of 1,500 wins in 2015. He is the third leading rider at the current Fair Grounds meet with 36 wins, behind James Graham in first and Adam Beschizza in second place.
