With a six-win day and strong statistics for the holiday racing week, Dylan Davis was a nearly unanimous choice for Jockeys’ Guild Jockey of the Week for February 12-19, 2018. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America. Jockey of the Week is sponsored by Animal Element’s Foundation Detox and Product X Performance Enhancer.

Dylan Davis impressed voters with a remarkable day on Sunday when he won six races in a single card at Aqueduct, including five consecutive wins to start the card. The six victories tie the record for most wins in a day at a NYRA track, and he was the first to do so since Javier Castellano in 2013, also at Aqueduct.

Among Davis’ Sunday wins was the $100,000 Gander Stakes with Nine Route ($14.60). Like Nine Route, none of Davis’ winning mounts of the card were favorites; Mo Flash ($9.80), Crimson Frost ($6.80), Dead Broke ($7.80), Getoffmyback ($6.20) and Gorelli ($9.90) each brought value to Davis’ backers. His six wins represented five different trainers.

In addition to his win in the Gander on Sunday, Davis also won the $100,000 Hollie Hughes Stakes on Monday with My Boy Tate ($3.10).

Davis’ win streak contributed to his 11 total victories last week, second only to Irad Ortiz, Jr with 14 wins. Davis also finished second in seven races and had two third-place finishes for an in-the-money rate of 74% and a win rate of 41%.

On his six-win day, Davis also finished no worse that third in his nine mounts. With 30 wins to date, he is the leading rider by wins at the current Aqueduct meet. He has won 33 of his 142 starts in 2018 and is 422 for 3,799 lifetime.

Davis was the third leading rider by total earnings for the week, earning $496,230 in 27 starts. His 2018 total is currently at $1,595,781 and his lifetime earnings exceed $16.8 million.

2018 has already been a banner year for the young jockey: earlier this month, Davis notched a five-win day at Aqueduct. He also won his first graded stakes race on January 27 with Great Stuff in the Grade 3 Toboggan Stakes.

Due to holiday racing schedules for the Presidents’ Day holiday weekend, statistics used for this week’s ballot included Monday, February 12 through Monday, February 19.
