After becoming the eighth North American Jockey to win 7,000 races, voters named Hall of Famer Edgar Prado the Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week for May 14 – 20, 2018. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America. Jockey of the Week is sponsored by FoundationDetox.com, America’s #1 Equine Toxin Remover.

The 50-year-old Peruvian spent the first half of the week at Parx, where he notched win number 6,999 aboard the Miguel Vera trainee Hydraulic on Monday. Prado wasted no time reaching win number 7,000 as he won the 6th race at Parx on Tuesday with the Anthony Merlino homebred Thefundsarelow.

Prado finished the week with two wins, one second, and one third place finish from only eight mounts. In a career that has spanned more than 30 years, Prado has won 18% and come in the money on an impressive 48% of his mounts. One of racing’s ironmen, Prado has amassed more than $266 million in earnings over his career.

With the milestone, Prado now sits eighth all-time in career wins behind Angel Cordero, Jr. (7,051), Chris McCarron (7,141), David Gall (7,396), Pat Day (8,803), Bill Shoemaker (8,833), Laffit Pincay, Jr. (9,530), and Russell Baze (12,842).

Some of Prado’s career highlights include a 6 ½ length victory in the 2006 Kentucky Derby aboard Barbaro, two Belmont Stakes wins, and four Breeders’ Cup wins. Individual honors for Prado include the George Woolf Memorial Award in 2003, the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey, ESPN ESPY Award and Mike Venezia Memorial Award in 2006. Prado was inducted into the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame in 2008.
