After a five-win day at Hastings, Aaron Gryder was named Jockeys’ Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week title for August 20 – 26, 2018. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America. Voters supported Aaron Gryder in this week’s poll following his five-win day at Hastings on Saturday. The five wins came in consecutive races and included three wins in the CTHS Sales Stakes series; Gryder was one of only two North American jockeys to win three stakes last week.

Gryder’s wins represented four different trainers and he had a combined margin of victory of over ten lengths. Only one of his mounts was the post-time favorite.

He finished third in his other mount of the day in the opening race, another of the CTHS Sales Stakes series. He went south to Emerald Downs on Sunday to ride in the Washington Cup Sophomore Stakes, finishing second with Boundary Bay.

Gryder’s seven wins came from ten mounts last week, resulting in a 70% win rate. He also had a second-place finish and a third-place finish, finishing in the money on 90% of his races. He has won 46 of his 261 starts in 2018. In his career to date, he has 3,837 wins in 29,372 starts.

Gryder picked up $110,020 in earnings last week to add his is 2018 total of $757,313 and his lifetime total of $120,821,346.

Among the many notable horses Gryder has ridden are multiple grades stakes winners Well Armed, winner of the Dubai World Cup in 2009, and Calidoscopio, the ultimate closer from Argentina who won the Breeders Cup Marathon (G2) in 2012 and the Brooklyn Handicap (G2) in 2013. He has raced at tracks around the world and has earned riding titles at Churchill, Arlington, Aqueduct and Golden Gate Fields.
