The Jockeys’ Guild has partnered with the Race Track Chaplaincy of America (RTCA) to establish an account for funds for the family of Juan Saez.
Juan Saez, a 17-year-old apprentice jockey, was fatally injured October 14 in an on-track accident at Indiana Grand in Shelbyville, Indiana.
Juan is survived by his parents Carlos Saez and Laurentina Ramos Saez, as well as his siblings Norisela, Jakeline, Luis (his wife, Andrea), Detzy, Sebastian, and his nieces and nephew.
Contributions can be made to aid the family by sending a check made out to Race Track Chaplaincy of America, 2365 Harrodsburg Road, Suite A-120, Lexington, Kentucky 40504, with the notation “Juan Saez” on the memo line.
Additionally, jockeys across the nation will honor the late jockey during Breeders’ Cup weekend, October 31 and November 1.
The jockeys will ride with a patch with Juan’s initials on their pants/boots, as well as a black band to recognize Juan, along with the other jockeys who have lost the lives during a race or as a result of race-related injuries. All jockeys will be asked to donate at least one losing mount fee to the fund.
