After leading North America in victories, journeyman rider Tyler Gaffalione was voted the Jockeys’ Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week for March 30th-April 5th. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America.
After an impressive 2019 campaign applying his trade on the national circuit, the pride of Broward County Florida found himself on top of the standings in the opening week of the spring season at Gulfstream Park. The multi-talented craftsman continues polishing his skills with the confidence enabling him to acquire quality mounts for leading outfits in the industry.
Gaffalione’s gift to dictate the tempo, stalk the pace, and his ability to measure and come from behind with strength was on display throughout the week resulting in 13 wins, six more than Luis Saez and Sammy Camacho.
He maintained a 39% win rate and finished in the money on 61% of his 33 mounts.
Gaffalione has won 72 of 406 starts this year and 1,257 of 7,483 career mounts. In 2020, his mounts have earned $23,682,382 and his lifetime earnings exceed $55.5 million.
