Thanks to generous donations from across North America, paralyzed jockey Alyssa Selman has been able to purchase a wheelchair-accessible home in the area she grew up, according to CBC News Manitoba. The 29-year-old was injured when throw from her mount on June 27 at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg, Canada.
A GoFundMe account was set up shortly thereafter, and donations were also accepted by the Manitoba Horseman’s Benevolent and Protective Association. Fundraisers like a benefit and necklace sales helped bolster the total number to over $118,000, according to the report.
A note posted on Selman’s GoFundMe page states that “she simply cannot believe the support that she has received…she has heartfelt appreciation.”
