The 10th race was a fitting exclamation point on another four win day for the veteran rider who had celebrated his 57th birthday the day before. So how did Baze accomplish career victory 12,624?
It was a perfectly timed last to first ride aboard Mucho Blessings, who was the second favorite in the 1 1/16 miles turf race. Coming out of the gate, Mucho Blessings stumbled slightly and went to his nose. Baze never panicked and allowed his mount to settle in last place, almost 20 lengths behind the pacesetters.
The Hall of Famer saved all the ground possible on both turns and then angled out at the top of the stretch to win by one half length.
It was his 181st win in 2015 and rewarded his backers with a $8.80 win payoff.
