The Laffit Pincay Jr. Award is presented to a Thoroughbred jockey for outstanding achievement during the year. Pincay was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1975 and has won numerous awards, including the Eclipse Award for Outstanding jockey on give occasions and was the United States’ leading money-winning jockey seven times. He won 44 riding titles overall.

Mike Smith is currently the second-leading jockey of all time for purses won with more than $300 million and more than 5,400 winners. He has won more than 500 graded stakes, a record 26 Breeders’ Cup wins and 4 Triple Crown races. He has ridden many of America’s greatest racehorses including Holy Bull, Lure, Skip Away, Azeri, Zenyatta, Arrogate and Songbird among others.

He was honored earlier this year by the California legislators with a Special Resolution which recognized his Hall of Fame career along with his leadership and sportsmanship as a professional athlete. Smith has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to advancing the rights of his fellow riders. He has been a member of the Jockeys’ Guild since his riding career began and serves on the Board of Directors.
