ALBANY, CALIF. – Kieren Fallon, a six-time champion jockey in Great Britain, will make his first appearance at Golden Gate Fields on Thursday when he competes in the first race.
A 50-year-old native of Crusheen, Ireland, Fallon will ride Chalking It Up (6-1) in the Thanksgiving opener, an optional claiming race for 2-year-old fillies at one mile on the main track. Post time for the first race is scheduled for 11:15 a.m.
Fallon has won the 2000 Guineas five times, the 1000 Guineas and Epsom Oaks four times, and the Epsom Derby three times. He also has won Classic races in Ireland, France, Germany and Italy. His victories in the United States include the 2003 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf with Islington, 2004 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf with Ouija Board, 2005 Arlington Million with Powerscourt and 2009 Goodwood with Gitano Hernando.
This year Fallon has ridden at Santa Anita, Del Mar, Indiana Grand, Ellis Park, Saratoga Race Course, Parx Racing, Belterra Park, Kentucky Downs and Belmont Park. He also has won 10 races in Great Britain in 2015.
Simon Callaghan trains Chalking It Up for Reddam Racing LLC. Chalking It Up broke her maiden by two lengths in a $50,000 claiming race Nov. 8 at Del Mar with Mario Gutierrez aboard.
