Recovery has been slow for jockey Rajiv Maragh, who suffered six spinal fractures in a spill July 10 at Belmont Park, according to a report in the Daily Racing Form. Maragh reported that he hasn’t had much improvement in his condition so far, so he sought a consultation from another physician and has been fitted with a back brace.
There is no timeline for Maragh’s return to the races, as he is expected to be homebound for the next three months.
Maragh had been back in the tack for less than a year at the time of his July 10 spill, having broken his arm in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup last September and missing three months.
Maragh told the Form that the back brace is already helping support his body after just a day and he is feeling more comfortable. In addition to the six spinal fractures, his T5 and T6 vertebrae are also compressed.
