From the Paulick Report
Rajiv MaraghJockey Rajiv Maragh confirmed Monday that he will not be able to make it back in time to ride in the Breeders’ Cup.

Maragh, who suffered a broken arm in a spill in the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup, told the Daily Racing Form that although doctors had indicated he could return to the saddle as soon as next weekend, he said today that it would be too soon.

Maragh had hoped to ride Main Sequence in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf; the jockey had previously ridden the gelding to three straight Grade 1 victories. John Velazquez has since picked up the mount on Main Sequence.

“I know by the way I feel I’m not going to be ready to be at my best,” Maragh told the Form. “I didn’t want to jeopardize my health or the horse’s chances. I’m going to do what’s right and get back in top shape before I start back.”

Maragh has an appointment with his doctors Oct. 24 to get a progress report.
