Ryan MooreFollowing the historic win by Adelaide (IRE) in the G1 Sportingbet Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in Australia, Ryan Moore has climbed to the top of the Longines World’s Best Jockey Standings with 82 total points. Mr Moore is followed closely by Christophe Soumillon at 76 points and Joseph O’Brien at 72 points.

The scoring for the Longines World’s Best Jockey is based upon performances in the 100 highest-rated Group 1 and Grade 1 races as established for the year by the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings Committee. The scoring incorporates races from 1 December of the previous year until 30 November of the current year.  Jockeys accrue 12 points for a win, 6 points for placing second, and 4 points for placing third.  The rules of the points system can be found at

The jockey with the best performance in the world’s highest-rated races will be honored at the inaugural Longines World’s Best Jockey award ceremony at the gala dinner of the Longines Hong Kong International Races, which is scheduled for 12 December 2014 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Ryan Moore, Christophe Soumillon, and Joseph O’Brien each have mounts in determining races for the Longines WORLD’S BEST JOCKEY in this weekend’s Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Mr Moore is scheduled to ride defending champion Dank (GB) in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf, and Telescope (IRE) in the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf. Mr Soumillon will have the mount on Veda (FR) in the Breeders’ Cup Mile and Mr O’Brien will be aboard the defending winner of the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf, Magician (IRE).
