With two days of double stakes wins, Flavien Prat was voted Jockeys’ Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week for July 20th-July 26th. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America.

With the resumption of racing on Friday afternoon at the seaside oval in Del Mar, the Frenchman, Flavien Prat returned to action with double stakes wins on both Friday and Sunday’s programs. Capturing the $125,000 Fleet Treat Stakes (Black Type), the $65,000 Daisycutter Handicap (Black Type), the $200,000 Eddie Read Stakes (Gr 2) and the $125,000 California Dreamin’ Stakes.

Accepting eight mounts on Friday, Prat was aboard the Echo Eddie Stakes Winner, Big Sweep in the seven furlong Fleet Treat Stakes. The rider had the three-year-old daughter of Mr. Big stalking the leader in the early stages before taking control in upper stretch and drawing clear for trainer Mark Glat.

Returning in the Daisycutter Handicap, a five furlong sprint, Prat had the leg up on the Wesley Ward trained Jo Jo Air. Displaying his masterful expertise on the turf, the veteran rider allowed the four-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy to sit a couple of lengths off the lead, saving ground before angling out as they turned for home, gaining command and holding the runner-up at bay.

Prat was back in brilliant form on Sunday where the turf meets the surf, pulling off another stakes double by sweeping both turf stakes on the card.

In the prestigious Grade 2 Eddie Read Stakes, Prat entered the starting gate aboard the favorite United, the gelded son of Giant’s Causeway. Positioned early to pressure the leader from the outside, the turf specialist measured his rival before United was set down turning for home. Under energetic handling with an eighth of a mile to go, United took command and proved best for conditioner Richard Mandella.

Going for his third turf stakes victory of the weekend, Prat had the call on the John Sadler trained Galilean in the mile and one sixteenth California Dreamin’ Stakes. The rider had the four-year-old Uncle Mo colt positioned nicely along the inside as he sat chilly and saved ground. Turning for home, Prat angled out to split horses, taking command and holding safe to the wire.

As the leading rider by total Stakes Wins (4) and earnings, Prat maintained a 33% win percentage while in the money on 63% of his mounts. With eight wins, three seconds and four thirds, his earnings totaled $470,300.

He’s won 108 of 419 starts this year and 885 of 4,414 career mounts. In 2020, his mounts have earned $5,978,503 and his lifetime earnings exceed $69 million.
