Jockey Flavien Prat scored at a 43% win rate and won three stakes on his way to be named the Jockeys’ Guild Jockey of the Week for May 23 – 30. The award is voted on by a panel experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America.
In Monday’s Grade 1 Gamely Stakes at Santa Anita, Prat rode a perfectly paced race aboard Illuminant, who sat off of a quick early pace and held off the highly favored Wekeela (FR) for a one length victory in the 1 1/8 miles turf event. Prat’s other stakes wins came on Saturday at Santa Anita in the $188,000 Snow Chief aboard Gold Rush Dancer and the $100,000 Lennyfrommalibu aboard Ambitious Brew.
For the holiday week, Prat scored nine wins, two seconds and two thirds in 21 mounts. As of May 30, the native of France is one win behind perennial leading rider Rafael Bejerano for the top jockey at Santa Anita.
