Brian Hernandez Jr. (winning rider of Finley’sluckycharm)

“She’s a naturally fast filly. Her last couple of races, she didn’t get away (from the gate) very smoothly so today that was our game plan: Get her away from there running. She’s one of the special fillies – the faster she goes, she just kind of runs horses off their feet and that’s what she did today.

“You have to be really proud of this filly. We’ve said all along she deserves a Grade 1 (win). She dug in today – she was never going to let that eight horse (Miss Sunset) by her. At the wire I thought we won, but I was a little worried. It was really close, but she was there for us. She was gutsy the whole way.”

Julien Leparoux (rider of runner-up Miss Sunset)

“We got a good race. She fought back. She was fighting at the end. We (Miss Sunset and Finley’sluckycharm) were very close to each other. It was just a head-bob thing and the 12 (Finley’sluckycharm) got it.”

Irad Ortiz Jr. (rider of third-place finisher Lewis Bay)

“I got a good trip. My filly broke good. I saved some ground. She kept running. She just got there late.”

Jose Ortiz (rider of fourth-place finisher American Gal)

“She’s a really nice filly and she’s really fast. She broke clean today and that’s why I think she was on the lead. I had the winner on the outside of me the whole way so I had to keep going. At one time past the eighth pole, I saw that Finley’sluckycharm wasn’t getting away from me and my filly was digging back, so I drifted out trying to look for them and (American Gal) dug in. She ran so good to run fourth, it was so close.”
