Tyler Baze wins the Ride of the Week

Tyler Baze’s expert handling of Courageous Call in Saturday’s seventh race at Santa Anita earned him the JockeyTalk360 Ride of the Week honors. Baze showed textbook riding form in going wire to wire in the allowance race. The break from the gate was critically important. Baze was on a runner with early speed and was starting from the two post. Any hesitation at the break, and the race could be lost with other early speed runners cutting him off on the backside. In classic Tyler Baze style Courageous Call broke on top, but that was only one part of...

Luis Quinonez wins Ride of the Week aboard Gold Medal Dancer in Saturday’s Azeri Stakes

When facing champion Untapable, who was bet down to 1–9, Gold Medal Dancer would need to run the race of her life, get a perfect ride, and have a little luck. She got all three. At the break, Gold Medal Dancer broke very sharp while Untapable acted up the gate and broke a half step slow. That allowed Quinonez to take command of the race and make the lead in the first turn, forcing Untapable to get off the rail on a track labeled as good. The 2014 champion eased up to Gold Medal Dancer on the stretch turn,...

Aaron Gryder wins Ride of the Week aboard Singing Kitty

In Saturday’s China Doll Stakes at Santa Anita, jockey Aaron Gryder piloted Singing Kitty to a 19-1 upset which earned the JockeyTalk360 Ride of the Week. A winner of more than 3,600 career victories, Gryder saved ground the entire one mile turf event. Singing Kitty broke sharp, and he took a hold of the three-year-old filly, who followed a hot pace set by She’s a Big Winner. Gryder stayed on the fence and got Singing Kitty to relax off a first quarter in 23.07. On the stretch, he was able to find seam and went up to the leader. Knowing that there would be some strong closers, he did not ask Singing Kitty until the top of the lane. And, she had plenty left for the win. Joe Bravo wins Ride of the Week aboard Inventor’s Gate

Jockey Joe Bravo’s crafty handling of 8-1 shot Inventor’s Gate made the difference in the 11th race at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 27, which was named the JockeyTalk360 Ride of the Week.  In a 14 horse field, Bravo broke from the seven post and found a good spot on the rail in the first turn.  The veteran rider was able to relax his mount in ninth place on the backside.  On the stretch turn, he continued his progress on the rail.  At the head of the lane, Bravo made the race winning decision to go to the inside as the horse next to him went to the outside and the leader started to drift out.  With steady handling throughout the stretch, Bravo and Inventor’s Gate were able to prevail by a neck.
