After winning five races twice in consecutive days and leading the Nation with 17 total wins, Luis Saez was voted the Jockeys’ Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week for March 23rd – March 29th. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America.

Entering the closing week of the Championship Meet at Gulfstream Park, Saez had 96 wins at the Hallandale, Florida oval. Sought after and in demand by the most prominent owners and trainers in the industry, Saez had 49 riding assignments in the meets final days. Competing in a riding colony featuring the Nation’s premier riders, Saez’s uncanny knack for positioning was evident in a remarkable display of consistency, strength, and style. To start the week, Saez won three races on Wednesday, then five on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, Saez won two races including the Grade 3 Orchid Stakes where he had the mount on Mean Mary, the La Prevoyante Stakes winner conditioned by Graham Motion. Saez took the daughter of Scat Daddy gate to wire, making it three in a row for the pair. Saez then wrapped up the week by winning another two races on Sunday, bringing his total up to an impressive 17 wins for the week.

For the year, Saez has won 83 of his 422 mounts and is 2,395 for 13,871 lifetime. In 2020, Saez mounts have earned $3,506,601 and his lifetime earnings to date exceed $117 million.
