Voters unanimously agreed that Drayden Van Dyke was the most deserving Jockeys’ Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week candidate for August 13 – 19, 2018. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America. Jockey of the Week is sponsored by FoundationDetox.com, America’s #1 Equine Toxin Remover.

On Sunday, Van Dyke tied a record number of wins in a single card at Del Mar that was set in 2006 by Victor Espinoza. Van Dyke won seven of his eight mounts on the ten race card, and finished second in his only non-win of the day.

His seven wins represented five different trainers and included maiden special weight, claiming, allowance and stake races. Only two of his wins came upon post-time favorites.

In July, Van Dyke won the Grade 2 $250,000 Eddie Read Stakes with Catapult ($44.00), the longest price in a ten-horse field. The duo returned on Sunday to win the $200,000 Del Mar Mile (G2), this time at more reasonable odds of 5-1 in the 13-horse field. Van Dyke found another ground-saving route with the 5-year-old Kitten’s Joy horse who specializes in running well off the pace and, as his name might suggest, making wide, quick-closing moves in the stretch.

Van Dyke was the fourth leading North American rider by both total earnings and was the seventh by stakes earnings. He earned $182,850 in stakes appearances and amassed $454,150in total weekly earnings. He has earned $6.1 million in 2018 and just shy of $27 million in lifetime earnings since his riding career began in 2013.

Van Dyke won nine races last week out of 29 mounts for a win rate of 31% and finished in the money in 62% of his efforts. In 2018, he has 91 victories in 414 starts; he has won 484 of his 3,184 mounts in his career to date.

The Eclipse award winner for Outstanding Apprentice in 2014, Van Dyke is the leading jockey of the current Del Mar meet, with a narrow margin of one win separating him from Flavien Prat through Sunday, August 19.
