Thecartelofmiracle, a gelded son of the Corona Cartel stallion Tough And Good, outran his 13-1 odds to win Saturday’s Grade 1, 400-yard Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park.
Ridden by Manuel Gutierrez, Thecartelofmiracle defeated 8-5 favorite and second-fastest qualifier Hotstepper by a neck in :19.800. Alonso Neri trained the gelding for owner Mauro Luciano Villarreal.
Thecartelofmiracle was bred in Texas by Jose L. Estrada. Campaigned exclusively in his home state, the gelding has won four of nine starts, and the $388,761 winner’s share of the $873,616 Texas Classic Futurity purse pushed his bankroll to $419,359.
Thecartelofmiracle’s record includes a seventh-place finish in the Dash For Cash Futurity (G1) at Lone Star on September 30.
This Is An Eagle finished third, a half of a length behind Thecartelofmiracle. Starfield, Cartel Cupid, fastest qualifier Legacy Eagle, Another Shot, Factual Basis, and This Is A Deal Too completed the order of finish. Ninth-fastest qualifier Streakin Seis Corona was scratched.
