Baze showed textbook riding form in going wire to wire in the allowance race. The break from the gate was critically important. Baze was on a runner with early speed and was starting from the two post. Any hesitation at the break, and the race could be lost with other early speed runners cutting him off on the backside.
In classic Tyler Baze style Courageous Call broke on top, but that was only one part of the winning ride. With rail position secured, Baze just sat on Courageous Call and tried to get her to relax as Imwiththeblonde came over from post seven. Baze saved as much energy as possible until it was time to make his move at the top of the lane. Then, with steady handling, Courageous Call held off the challenge of Shakeitupbetty to win by a half length: a classic wire-to-wire victory at Santa Anita.
